A project by Northumbria University Newcastle

On the 28th and 29th of April, three wonderful volunteers staffed a stand at the UK Maker Faire at the Life Science Centre in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. Here, visitors were able to look, feel and experiment with the first version of our Domestic Widgets. Twenty pre-assembled Widgets were up and running, displaying real-time public data, which could be assigned new functionality using our Conversation Agent in the Google Assistant app. This allowed us to engage in a discussion with you on what kind of data you might find relevant to be displayed – so we can make that happen! Meanwhile, a stack of cardboard kits could be assembled and decorated, resulting in a miniature (manual) Domestic Widget as a souvenir!

The crew has enjoyed the whole weekend – it was a lot of fun and there were many interesting discussions on the future of data in our everyday lives. Below is a selection of photos taken throughout the weekend, have a look! If you might be interested in being updated on this project, or might be interested in receiving a few Widgets for free at home? Subscribe for our newsletter using the button below. We won’t spam you, we merely intend to use it to notify you when we are ready (and confident) to send out our Widgets!

See you soon!
